Downtown Collingwood
Walking Tour.

The Downtown Collingwood Walking Tour is always one of the more popular events of Doors Open Collingwood. Our Downtown was the first Downtown Heritage District to be Federally Designated as an Historic Place. Guides will tell you about Collingwood's early beginnings as a Great Lakes Port. The railroad met Collingwood Harbour at the foot of our Downtown Heritage District. Our main street was named "Hurontario" because it was a major connecting road between Lake Huron and Lake Ontario. It was once a corduroy road made of cedar logs. In 1881, a major portion of our main street was destroyed by fire. The town's people quickly recovered and reconstruction of what you see today began. Today, Collingwood's Downtown boasts many historic treasures including numerous murals illustrating life in Collingwood from the turn of the century and our proud past with shipbuilding and the railroad. Relax on an oudoor patio and enjoy your time in Historic Downtown Collingwood.
